  • Important Reminder
    Posted On: Apr 08, 2018

I wanted to take a few minutes to remind everyone about participating in ANY joint group or committee involving the bargaining unit and Duke management or there representatives. Article XI of the MOA spells out how this process works and Section 1(A) of this article explains how "When a process review team involves the Bargaining Unit, the System Committee will provide the names of the Bargaining Unit employees...".

This is also true of any of any investigation team appointed by the company to investigate a lost time accident involving a Bargaining Unit member where the Union participates in the investigation itself. Those persons will be selected by the Business Manager or his designee as outlined in ART VII Section 8 of the MOA.

Most important to this is that the person or persons are representing all Bargaining Unit employees when in this situation and is the reason why Union leadership makes these decisions. These representatives also need to keep in mind that a report of some kind HAS to be submitted to the Local or directly to SCU8 about the subject one is involved in. This can be a verbal report to Union Leadership for example so don't think you have to create some elaborate document.

Please keep in mind that if you or someone you know is involved in a situation above, or something like it, and have not been directed by Union Leadership to participate then you DO NOT speak for the Bargaining Unit and are in violation of our contractual agreement. Please bring it to the attention of Local leadership or the System Committee if you are aware of a situation like this.

If I haven't scared you off yet and you wish to be a part of these joint committees and/or investigations I strongly encourage you to contact any of the officers, executive board members, or your local shop steward to let us know and we will work on involving you when and where we can. The more of us that are out there working for the Unions best interests the stronger we will be!

    In Solidarity

    Jason Wilson
